Canari’s song (Serinus canaria)

In canaries, there are two categories of vocalizations: the call and the

song. Calls are emitted by both sexes whereas songs are emitted by

males. A song lasts between 6 and 10 seconds. A song is composed

of phrases, syllables and notes. A note is characterized by acoustic

parameters such as duration, frequency level and frequency bandwidth

(frequency max. - frequency min.) Different notes associated between

them form a syllable. The syllables can be more or less complex

(i.e. constituted of two or five notes). The same repeated syllable

composes a phrase and several phrases together form a song.
